7.6 Color Model

Palettes provide only a fixed number of colors. Using Color model millions of colors can be generated. Color model represents a formula to produce colors. Colors are generated by mixing the right percentage of different colors.

A common color model is the CMYK color model. An exhausting range of colors are produced by mixing right percentage of the colors-cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

To choose a color using a color viewer do this:

1. In the outline Color dialog box, Click on the model tab.

2. Chose a color model from the Model: drop down list tab.

3. Click Options, highlight Color viewer, and choose a color viewer. Figure 7.16 shows a CMY-3D Subtractive color viewer.

4. Click the color scroll bar at the right to set the range of colors displayed in the color sections area.

5. Click a color in the color selection area.

6. Drag the handles seen inside the viewer to the color of you choice. The color produced can be seen in the Reference area.

7. If the color you had created will be used frequently, click on the Add To Palette button. You can also provide a name for this color by typing a name in the Name list menu. The color will be added to the color palette located at the right of the drawing window.

Color Harmonies

Color harmonies work by superimposing a shape, such as a rectangle or a triangle over a color wheel. Each vertical row in the color grid begins with the color located at one of the points on the superimposed shape.

The colors at opposite corners of the shape are always complementary, contrasting, or harmonious, depending on the shape you choose. The color harmonies are most useful when you are choosing several colors for a project.

To choose a color using color harmonies, do this:

1. In the Outline Color dialog box, click the Mixers tab.

2. Click Options, highlight Mixers and choose Color harmonies. (See Figure 7.17).

3. Choose a shape from the Hues list box. You will see the shape on the color wheel.

4. Choose an option from the Variation list box.

5. Drag the black dot on the color wheel.

6. Click the color swatch on the color palette below the color wheel.

7. When you have selected the color you want, Click OK.

Color Blend

When you choose a color using blends, you combine base colors to get the color you want. The color blender displays a grid of colors that if creates from the four base colors you choose.

To create a color using color blends, do this:

1. In the Outline Color dialog box, click the Mixer tab.

2. Click Options, highlight Mixers and choose color blends.

3. Click on each of the color picker, and choose a color.

4. Click on a color in the color grid area. (See Figure 7.18).

5. You can change the cell size of the color grid by moving the Size slider.

Setting Outline Defaults

CorelDRAW by default creates outlines of 0.2 point width and black color.

You can change these default settings according to your wish and requirements.

To change CorelDRAW�s default outlines for the current drawing, do this:

1. Without selecting any object, click the Outline tool flyout and choose Outline Pen Dialog.

2. A window as shown in Figure 7.19 will appear. Check against Graphics in the dialog box.

Now the settings that you do in Outline Pen Dialog box will be applied to all the current drawing.

To change default outlines for all the documents, do this:

1. Click Tools menu and choose Options.

2. In the Options dialog

3. Click the Document.

4. Click the Edit button.

5. The Outline Pen Dialog box appears .set the features that you want for all the documents you create thereafter.
